We are seeking to host a panel of 4-8 ODs from 9:30-15:00 that operate as part of our carousel sessions. Lower Sixth pupils, in groups of 15 or so, cycle through these throughout the day. The OD Panel is a repeated session that is an interactive Q&A, where pupils hear about different ODs' professional journeys and offer guidance on decision making. Ideally, the panel includes current or recent undergrads but a range of ages works well (and a range of pathways - e.g., uni and apprenticeship / straight into work). ODs are able swap in and out of the panel depending on availability.
Can you offer opportunities for work experience for our aged 16+ pupils? Work experience can be a hugely formative experience for young people but can be challenging to find and organise, especially following the understandable narrowing of opportunities during the pandemic. We would love to be able to place Fifth Form pupils (aged 16+) within a local company for days during our Fifth Form Skills Week (27 June to 1 July), as well as look for opportunities to connect Sixth Form pupils to companies in the coming year. June Skills Week placements could be for one to four pupils for one or more days and could take the form of work shadowing or assisting departments within your place of work. The school is ready to help with navigating safeguarding and supporting placements.
We are seeking 15 visiting professionals, for a half-day event (times TBC) run by a consultant Dean Close School partners with. Volunteers will be guided to do a series of short generic interviews and then provide feedback to the Upper Sixth.
We have established a rolling programme of career focus / professional encounter sessions in which ODs, parents and friends are brought in (live or over Zoom) to present to pupils on their profession/sector/journey. This can be hugely valuable for pupils and offer invaluable insight into different sectors/industries.
