About the Foundation Awards

Over the years, Dean Close School has given bursaries to many talented and financially deserving pupils (usually these awards are granted at 16+). Now we plan to build on this, through our Foundation Awards, which are a new type of bursary, created to provide life changing opportunities to families who would otherwise not be able to consider an independent education. Recipients or ‘Foundationers’ will demonstrate significant potential in one or more of Dean Close’s key areas of focus...academics, music, sport, art or drama. Foundationers will have strength of character, a can-do attitude and will show the potential and willingness to contribute to school life and a clearly proven financial need.

Why the Foundation Awards?

The Foundation Awards will give more deserving young people the chance to flourish with a Dean Close education, and each opportunity will be truly life-changing. The whole school community benefits from this new ambitious bursary programme, as Foundationers bring with them their own unique experiences, backgrounds, and perspectives; increasing the diversity and vibrancy of school life for all.

Our Current Foundationers

As an eleven-year-old boy, I was awarded a bursary. Now, as headmaster, I relate to pupils going through this transformational experience. I greatly value the social diversity bursaries bring because I believe the ability to empathise is one of the key skills we must give all our pupils.
