Sponsored Swim in Memory of Karen Whitton (nee Venn). 

Saturday 7th September 2024 at (8.00 - 13.00) or Dean Close School (15.30 - 20.00).

The aim is to cover 220 miles collectively (length of the River Severn) for Cancer Research UK in memory of Karen Whitton (nee Venn), who after a courageous 2 year battle with cancer, passed away on Saturday 2nd September 2023.

Karen was an avid swimmer, a member of Cheltenham Swimming Club, swimming both at county and district level. An advanced swimming teacher; a swimming coach and teaching assistant at Dean Close Pre-Preparatory School and sports teacher at Airthrie School. Many local swimming teachers and parents may also know her from owning and running ‘Aquasplash’ and ‘Big Waves Swim School’ with her mother, Marian Venn.

The tour will concentrate on the Senior School buildings which date back to 1886 when Dean Close Memorial School, an evangelical educational establishment, first opened. Named after the Very Reverend Francis Close, a prominent figure in the history of Cheltenham, the Christian faith remains an important aspect of the school ethos today.

Tours will depart from the main school reception and take approximately one hour. Following the tour, tea and cake will be served.

The competition is played in the morning on the Red course followed by a three-course carvery.  Cost is £150pp and includes a tee time in the afternoon on the Blue course.
