The School’s Rugby Academy is directed by Andrew Stanley and is designed in line with the RFU Premiership Academies to maximise and develop talent through the following areas:
- Technical: skill development
- Tactical: game understanding – position and unit specific
- Physical: conditioning, nutrition, rehabilitation, injury prevention
- Psychological: mental preparation, anxiety control
The programme is committed to one-to-one mentoring, which is supported by guest coaches and current professional players, providing up-to-date expert guidance. The School has a strong relationship with Gloucester Rugby and Worcester Warriors Academy with coaches coming in on a regular basis to coach on an individual and group basis.

The School has direct links with the RFU Regional Gloucester Academy. Dean Close currently has a number of boys who are performing at a very high level in all of the pathways, at various ages, including 21 boys playing in the Gloucester Academy. There are a number of recent leavers playing premiership rugby including Tom Johnson (England and Exeter Chiefs), Tiff Eden (Worcester Warriors), Pete Browne (ex-Harlequins & London Welsh) and Lloyd Evans (England U18 and Gloucester).
