Clay Days

Our popular Clay Day Workshop is back for Summer 2026!

Clay Days aims to provide an environment for children aged 7 – 13 to unleash their creativity through the medium of clay during the summer holidays. Children will be taught how to hand build creations from clay step by step.

Projects are suitable for children at all skill levels and are aimed at building confidence through creativity.  Workshops will be delivered by Art Technician, Helen McWilliam-Clune who runs popular Clay Clubs, Clay Play schemes and 5 Time Enrichment activities at DCPS. Completed projects will be fired and gloss varnished after the workshops and ready for collection from Dean Close House after approximately 4 weeks.

Location: Dean Close Prep School - Rickerby - Clay Room

Price: Each Session is £60.00 and can be booked individually

Ages 7 - 13

Day 1 - Tuesday 4 August: Puffer fish

Learn the pinch pot method to create an adorable puffer fish. Use underglaze to paint and decorate in a spectrum of colours.

Day 2 - Wednesday 5 August: Melted Ice Cream

Create an upside down melted ice cream sculpture complete with cone. Use underglaze to paint your flavour in delicious colours.

Day 3 - Thursday 6 August: Bee Bath

Create a lily pad and flower bee bath for the garden. The shallow saucer lily pad shape is ideal for thirsty bees to drink from, and the flower creates a place for busy bees to rest. Paint and decorate in pretty underglaze colours.

Day 4 - Tuesday 11 August: Lighthouse Luminaire

Build a 3D lighthouse complete with lid, windows and crashing waves. Place a candle inside and watch it light up! Decorate in red, white and blue stripes.

Day 5 - Wednesday 12 August: Pen-pot

Construct a useful pen pot to personalise however you wish. Ocean themed covered in coral? Nature themed tree trunk? Add ears and a nose (or beak) and it's an animal!

Day 6 - Thursday 13 August: Name plaque

Spell your name in clay to create a hanging name plaque. Personalise your plaque by adding clay details that describe you. Whatever your interests you can sculpt in clay, add to your design to make it unique. Paint in underglaze colours of your choice.
