In 2020, architects, landscape architects and interior designers worked in partnership with the Dean Close pastoral team to deliver a bespoke development ready to meet the needs of pupils in the coming years, focusing on providing day pupils with better spaces for socialising and academic work, better safety and wellbeing, better supervision and a better aesthetic environment.
Designed with a ‘New England’ influence, the buildings are timber faced and include chalet- style windows, vaulted ceilings and feature lighting. Each house is distinctly different through its unique choice of colour scheme and features.
The Ground Floor accommodation is suitable for modern communal living with a light, airy entrance, a double height Atrium, a large, comfortable common room, a ‘farmhouse style’ kitchen/diner, a cosy snug area for small groups, spacious changing room with lockers, and a washroom with toilets and showers.
The First Floor is tailored to 21st Century academic study with a glass balcony to the floor below, separate Sixth Form & Lower School workspaces, dedicated IT workstations, collaborative learning facilities, private study areas, a meeting/tutorial room with a library and, finally, individual, designated storage.
The outdoor area has been landscaped and illuminated with a social quad, circular seating paved areas and attractive planting, including Mountain Ash and Acers.
